Kanye West s Sunday Service choir pays tribute at DMX memorial

25April 2021 On Saturday (April 24), friends and family of DMX gathered at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center for an in-person “celebration of life” and memorial service. Though it was closed to the public due to coronavirus restrictions, the memorial for the late rapper (real name Earl Simmons) was also broadcast live for fans to watch online. Ahead of the service, DMX’s casket was carried through the streets on the back of a black monster truck, with the words “long live DMX” painted on the side. The procession was also followed by hundreds of motorcyclists, including the Ruff Ryders hip hop collective.

Alber Elbaz, much-loved fashion designer, has died aged 59

Born in Morocco in 1961, and raised in Israel, Elbaz moved to New York in the mid-80s, where he worked for seven years as Geoffrey Beene’s senior assistant. This was followed by a move to Paris for a spell at the helm of Guy Laroche in 1996, and a subsequent role at Yves Saint Laurent. Elbaz took up his most famed role, as creative director of Lanvin, in 2001, and went on to rejuvenate the label over the course of his 14 year tenure. The partnership ended unexpectedly (and acrimoniously) in 2015, however, and he would go on to take a five-year hiatus before launching a new, future-facing project, AZ Factory, earlier this year.

Yoko Ono launches billboards to highlight environmental crisis

23April 2021 Yoko Ono has shared a new series of public artworks tackling the climate crisis, to mark Earth Day (April 22). Consisting of black text on a white background, the large-scale billboards simply declare: “I Love You Earth.”  In partnership with Serpentine Galleries, the new billboards have been installed in cities across the UK, including London, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Manchester. The message also refers to Ono’s song of the same name on the 1985 album Starpeace, which includes the lyrics: “ I love you, earth, you are beautiful / I love the way you are / I know I never said it to you / But I wanna say it now.”

NASA creates oxygen on Mars, paving the way for yeeting off this planet

According to NASA, Mars’ atmosphere is 96 per cent carbon dioxide. MOXIE works by separating oxygen atoms from CO2 molecules, while carbon monoxide is emitted into the atmosphere as a waste product. Although it made just five grams of oxygen this time, MOXIE is designed to generate up to 10 grams per hour, and is expected to extract oxygen at least nine more times over the course of a Martian year (nearly two years on Earth). The news will be welcomed by both Elon Musk – who’s hoping to send humans to Mars by 2026 – and the designers of Nüwa, the first self-sustainable city on Mars, which is slated for construction in 2054.

Cardi B slams Republican for discussing WAP instead of police brutality

Cardi B was quick to respond on Twitter, asking why a US representative would bring up her performance of “WAP” when the country is still dealing with issues of police brutality after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd on Tuesday (April 20). “This gets me so mad ya don’t even know! I think we all been on edge this week since we seen the police brutality back to back including watching one of the biggest case in history go down DUE to police brutality but wait! This is wat state representative decide to talk about,” she tweeted.
