ISP to conduct enforcement patrols

MACOMB Illinois State Police (ISP) District 14 Commander, Captain Jon Dively, announced the ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols in Fulton and Henderson Counties during May. ACE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, and most importantly:

DRINKING coffee or water while driving could lead to huge fines as a number of states seek to crack down on distracted drivers with new legislation.
The so-called hands-free laws are being considered in a number of states, including Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, and aim to stop drivers from using their phones or other items which may avert their eyes from the road.

The crackdown on distracted driving runs until April 30.
Mayor Nicholas Sacco and the Board of Commissioners issued a proclamation last week supporting the Distracted Driving 2021 Crackdown, locally and nationally.
The mayor and commissioners, along with County Commissioner Anthony Vainieri, presented a certificate to Police Chief Peter Fasilis and Deputy Chief Robert Farley affirming their commitment to ensuring public safety and saving lives.
The April crackdown, with the slogan “UDrive. UText. UPay” is intended to raise awareness and decrease driver distraction through enforcement and education.
