Arkansas Lawmakers Approve Bill to Ban Nearly All Abortions

Arkansas Lawmakers Approve Bill to Ban Nearly All Abortions 4 Mar 2021 The Arkansas legislature has voted to approve a measure that would ban nearly all abortions, except those to save the life of the mother. The lawmakers have now sent SB 6, the Arkansas Unborn Child Protection Act to Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), who is pro-life, but, reportedly, has some reservations about the bill’s omissions of exceptions for rape and incest, and concerning if the measure would lead to a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court case in which the Court created a right to abortion. Who can trust a person that sees no trouble in aborting and killing an innocent baby? Arkansas can do better. https://t.co/wPY4k85IUn

Gov Hutchinson to sign bills and executive order

Stand Your Ground Law  Hutchinson says he will be signing SB 24, also known as the Stand Your Ground bill, but emphasized that there is no need for the bill.   “While I have often said there is no compelling need for this legislation, I am persuaded by the changes that have been made since it was introduced 2 years ago,” Hutchinson said. There is nothing in the language of the bill that would lead to different outcomes in the criminal justice system.   The ‘stand your ground’ law will end Arkansas’ duty to retreat if the person using deadly force is not a felon, is lawfully present, has a reasonable belief they are being threatened, is not engaged in criminal activity and if the person is not the initial aggressor.

Kansas ponders open churches, abortion limits in pandemics; bill would further restrict governor s powers | News, Sports, Jobs - Lawrence Journal-World: news, information, headlines and events in Lawrence, Kansas

John Hanna, Associated Press Updated at 7:25 p.m. Monday TOPEKA Conservative Kansas legislators, still smarting over actions Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly took early in the coronavirus pandemic, pushed Monday to prevent the state from restricting religious gatherings or keeping abortion providers open during emergencies. But Republicans are deeply split over how much to limit the power of state and local officials during future pandemics. Kelly kept a statewide stay-at-home order in place for five weeks last spring to check COVID-19’s spread. But the GOP-controlled Legislature later forced her to accept local control over mask mandates and the restriction of businesses and public gatherings to keep a state of emergency in place under a law that expires March 31.
