The Godfather is, “I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse.” Don Corleone wasn’t horsing around. The Hollywood producer to whom this ‘offer’ was made was threatened with terrible consequences if he refused to accept it. The Don’s ‘offer’ was not refused.
This famous line came to mind as I heard
Washington Post columnist – and CNN regular – Dr. Leana Wen (she boasts an M.D.) insist that the government needs “to make vaccination the easy choice.” Such innocent words! Indeed, they sound downright sweet. Who doesn’t like easy? But there’s nothing sweet or even innocent in Dr. Wen’s words. They signal authoritarianism.
A federal appeals court will review an earlier ruling on a lawsuit over Missouri s 2019 abortion law, bringing it before the entire bench and declaring the court s previous ruling void.
The Eighth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered last week that it would review a June ruling by a panel of three judges, which upheld a lower court ruling blocking the law. When the issue next appears in court, it will be in front of the appeals court s entire 18-judge bench, known as an en banc hearing.
The order will vacate, or nullify, the previous ruling, but the injunction put in place by the original district court ruling will remain in effect. The law makes abortions illegal after eight weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for incest or rape, criminalizes abortions sought due to indications of Down Syndrome during pregnancy and punishes physicians who violate its statutes.

ST. PAUL A central Minnesota reproductive health clinic that opened after the local Planned Parenthood closed is seeking a special state designation to access additional funding sources and accept more private health insurance.
WeARE The Clinic offers contraceptive services and promotes sexual education in Brainerd, Minn., and the surrounding area but does not provide abortions or abortion referrals. Gaining the Essential Community Provider, or ECP, would further legitimize the clinic for the work that we re doing every day, according to executive director Becky Twamley.
