Residents frustrated at return of unpopular proposal for house in Wall Well, Halesowen

Pic: Google HALESOWEN residents are objecting to plans for a detached home - after a previous application was turned down. People living on Wall Well in Hasbury are dismayed to see the return of the proposal to demolish a garage and build a detached three-bedroom house in its place. Concerns include the impact the house would have on daylight to neighbouring properties, as well as the strain it will put on local parking and access and its impact on the character of the area. Community campaigner Andrew Tromans, who is backing residents, said an application for planning permission to demolish the garage and build a house was rejected in 2019 on the grounds that it would result in of loss of light and overshadowing of neighbouring properties and a lack of parking.

Bushfield Camp then and now - but is it still brownfield?

BUSHFIELD Camp has lain unused for more than four decades. It is set to return to the spotlight as Winchester City Council draws up is new local plan. The military camp was earmarked for a ‘knowledge park’ but the economic situation makes that highly uncertain. Meanwhile, a campaign is growing for the adjacent Bushfield Down to be preserved. The question has arisen as to whether Bushfield Camp, the former Army base, can still be considered ‘brownfield’ land now that nature has been reclaiming it since the 1970s. The definition of brownfield land on the Planning Portal website of the Department of Communities and Local Government says it excludes “land that was previously-developed but where the remains of the permanent structure or fixed surface structure have blended into the landscape in the process of time.” Only the parade ground is still in good shape.
