How Bill Gates bankrolls the news agenda
Nowhere does this concern loom larger than with the Gates Foundation, a leading donor to newsrooms and a frequent subject of favorable news coverage. During the pandemic, news outlets have widely looked to Bill Gates as a public health expert on covid even though Gates has no medical training and is not a public official.
PolitiFact and USA Today (run by the Poynter Institute and Gannett, respectively both of which have received funds from the Gates Foundation) have even used their fact-checking platforms to defend Gates from “false conspiracy theories” and “misinformation,” like the idea that the foundation has financial investments in companies developing covid vaccines and therapies. In fact, the foundation’s website and most recent tax forms clearly show investments in such companies, including Gilead and CureVac.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday evening that he will be pardoning Floridians charged with violating COVID-19 mask or social distancing restrictions.
The Florida Republican broke the news on “The Ingraham Angle” to Mike and Jillian Carnevale, gym owners who face jail time for allowing their members to workout maskless.
“I’m glad you have Mike and Jillian on, and I’m also glad to be on, to be able to say that effective tomorrow morning, I’m going to sign a reprieve under my constitutional authority,” the governor said. “So that will delay the case for 60 days against both of them and then when our clemency board meets in the coming weeks we will issue pardons not only for Mike and Jillian but for any Floridian that may have outstanding infractions for things like masks and social distancing.”

The underwhelming jobs report in April suggested that an increase in government spending and unemployment benefits is discouraging people from going back to work, but it appears Wall Street wants to keep spending high as a means to drive growth.
The U.S. economy reported an increase of just 266,000 jobs in April and the unemployment rate rose slightly to 6.1%, well below the one million additional jobs projected by the Biden administration and economists. President Joe Biden attempted to put the jobs report “in perspective” during a speech last Friday, stating the numbers indicated “we still have a long way to go.”

A former Veterans Affairs nursing assistant confessed to administering deadly amounts of insulin killing at least seven veterans in Clarksburg, West Virginia, USA Today reported Tuesday.
Reta Mays, 46, was issued seven life sentences for murdering seven veterans and an additional 20 years for attempting to kill an eighth person at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center from July 2017 to June 2018, according to USA Today. The veterans served in the Air Force, Army and Navy during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.
“You’re the worst kind. You’re the monster no one sees coming,” U.S. District Judge Thomas Kleeh said Tuesday.
