Daily Telegraph Editor Ben English says the Royal Commission will restore a “degree of honour and dignity” to the memory of fallen soldiers who died on Australian shores.
On Monday the veteran community welcomed the federal government’s decision to announce a Royal Commission to address elevated suicide rates among Australian soldiers.
The Daily Telegraph has been pushing for a Royal Commission into veteran suicide through their ‘Save Our Heroes’ campaign.
Following the decision Mr English told Sky News elevated suicide rates among former soldiers were “a national disgrace, a national shame”.
Coronavirus ranks number one on Daily Telegraph s Power 100 List for 202105/03/2021|5min
The Daily Telegraph s Power 100 List for 2021 has been released with the coronavirus coming in strongly in the number one position.
Speaking to Sky News this morning, Daily Telegraph Editor Ben English said “the biggest mover of all is actually something we can’t see but we’re all terrified of and that’s the coronavirus”.
“That’s the number one most powerful force in Sydney this year”.
He said the top rank meant subsequent shifts in other positions, such as NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant moving up to number four and the heads of Pfizer and AstraZeneca in Australia moving into the top 10.
