Multiple groups are calling for a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, alleging human rights abuses by the Chinese government against minorities, according to Stephen Wade of the Associated Press. The time for talking with the IOC is over, Lhadon Tethong of the Tibet Action Institute said. This cannot be games as usual or business as usual; not for the IOC and not for the international community.
The United States and several of its allies issued sanctions against Chinese officials in March for serious human rights abuses against Uyghur Muslims. The joint statement referred to forced labor, mass detention in internment camps and forced sterilizations among other abuses.

Calls have grown to forgo the Winter Olympics next year.
Groups alleging human-rights abuses against minorities in China are calling for a full-blown boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, a move likely to ratchet up pressure on the International Olympic Committee, athletes, sponsors and sports federations.
A coalition representing Uyghurs, Tibetans, residents of Hong Kong and others
issued a statement Monday calling for the boycott, eschewing lesser measures that had been floated like “diplomatic boycotts” and further negotiations with the IOC or China.

Israel says Gaza tunnels destroyed in heavy airstrikes
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) The Israeli military unleashed a wave of heavy airstrikes on the Gaza Strip early Monday, saying it destroyed 15 kilometers (nine miles) of militant tunnels and the homes of nine Hamas commanders.
CAMPAIGN group No Cold War have hit back strongly at the group trying to force a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics, telling the Star that “it would contribute to an atmosphere of escalating tensions.”
A coalition representing Uighurs, Tibetans, residents of Hong Kong and others issued a statement today calling for the boycott, eschewing lesser measures that had been floated like “diplomatic boycotts” and further negotiations with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or China.
China’s foreign ministry has criticised “the politicisation of sports” and has said any boycott is “doomed to failure.”
China has denied accusations of genocide against the Uighur people and Carlos Martinez of No Cold War believes that instead of a boycott, people should be coming together.
