With signs of sporadic COVID-19 cases largely coming under control in Beijing and swift and strict epidemic control measures in several other cities that experienced a resurgence of outbreak, consumers in the world s second-largest economy have welcomed the New Year holidays with an unhidden passion for spending, starting China s 2021 growth trajectory on a strong note.

A Tibetan nomad was jailed this month by a court in northwestern China’s Qinghai province after being convicted of promoting “separatism” for posting photos and teachings of Tibet’s exiled spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on social media, Tibetan sources said.
Lhundup Dorje, 30, was handed a one-year prison, to be followed by a one-year deprivation of political rights following his release, by the Golog People’s Intermediate Court on Dec. 14, a source in Tibet told RFA’s Tibetan Service.
“Chinese authorities arrested Dorje on July 23, and he had already been held in detention for five months before he was sentenced,” RFA’s source said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

th birthday of the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama was released on Dec. 10, according to Radio Free Asia (RFA). A former monk at the Kirti monastery in Sichuan’s Ngaba in Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture returned home this month after serving his full 5-year sentence.
Citing contacts in Ngaba, Kanyak Tsering at Kirti monastery based in Dharamshala said, “[Ajaja] was believed to have been arrested for organising a grand celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday in Ngaba . . .
