Construction of the outdoor expansion of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center’s Wellness Center officially began Tuesday with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The $5 million project is being developed behind the Wellness Center at 726 N. Acadia Road and includes about 12 acres of land. Amenities will include 12 tennis courts, 12 sand volleyball courts, a turf playing field for soccer or football, an eight-lane track, pavilion, restrooms, concession area, a play area for kids and seating areas.
Thibodaux Regional CEO Greg Stock said the entire community will benefit from the project, which is expected to be completed in about 11 months.
“The tennis courts will have second stories to observe any of the courts that games are played on,” Stock said. “It will enable us to hold tournaments and to bring in other people from different areas and work with high schools. Terrebonne Parish registered nurse Melanie Soignet received her second dose of coronavirus vaccine Jan. 11.
Though she said she experienced some side effects from the shot, she is glad to have done her part to combat the spread of the virus.
“About eight hours after I developed some flu-like chills and a temperature around 101, but Tylenol did help lessen the symptoms,” she said. “I did miss one day of work due to feeling ill. This only lasted about 24 hours, then I was just a little tired and back to normal by day two. Hopefully the symptoms were my body making those much-needed antibodies that will help lessen the curve. We are happy to do our part to keep everyone safe.”
