Lisette Williams, career navigation specialist, joins as a full-time liaison between ACE MV and Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. This new position, funded through a grant from M.V. Youth and with support from ACE MV and the school, will provide training to the high school guidance department, develop new physical and digital resources for career pathways for high school students, and serve youth and young adults seeking training and career opportunities on the Island. Youth Experiences with Racism

Youth protesters last summer On The Point, we discuss youth experiences with racism, young people s ideas on how to address racism and white supremacy, and how schools are responding. Guests on the program are: Jeanne Morrison, consultant in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives for nonprofit organizations, and career counselor to youth of color. She serves on multiple local and state boards and steering committees for non- profit organizations committed to social and racial justice including the League of Women Voters Cape Cod, Barnstable Human Rights Commission and Barnstable No Place For Hate. Romaine Morgan, poet, graduate of Dennis Yarmouth High School and currently a student at Cape Cod Community College.

O B secures $210,000 shared streets grant - The Martha s Vineyard Times

The Martha s Vineyard Times O.B. secures $210,000 shared streets grant Oak Bluffs received a $210,000 grant from the state’s Shared Winter Streets & Spaces program to create new sidewalks and improve the bus stop at the Martha’s Vineyard Skatepark. With the funding, the town will construct brand-new, ADA-compliant sidewalks with lighting around the skatepark, connected to existing paved paths to the YMCA, Martha’s Vineyard Ice Arena, Martha’s Vineyard Community Services, and the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School.  The Oak Bluffs grant is part of $3.2 million for third-round funding for the shared streets program. The program provides technical and funding assistance to help Massachusetts cities and towns conceive, design, and implement tactical changes to curbs, streets, and parking areas in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce, with a special focus on the particular challenges of winter.

The Martha s Vineyard Times Cooking with Chef Kevin Crowell Chef Kevin Crowell is the host of Zoom cooking classes through the West Tisbury library. Brooke Crocker Hungry for a new recipe? Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 5:30 pm, the West Tisbury library presents “Cooking Local with Kevin Crowell,” a weekly Zoom cooking series for teens and adults with Chef Kevin Crowell. In a press release from the library, they thank Slough Farm for the use of their kitchen space for the virtual classes. All ingredients will be supplied by the library and available for curbside pick up the week of each class. Sign up by emailing lhearn@clamsnet.org. Class is limited to 10 signups. One sign up per household, but each meal will feed four people. There will be a separate signup for each class date, so specify what date or dates you would like to attend.
