Hose ramp takes bicyclist down
A crack in the ramp at Five Corners sent a cyclist tumbling on Thursday. - Rich Saltzberg
A bicyclist went down crossing the Beach Road hose ramp at Five Corners in Vineyard Haven late Thursday morning. Two people who were bicycling with him who declined to provide their names but said they were visiting the Island from Falmouth and Washington, said a fissure in the ramp seized their friend’s tire and caused him to crash. Tisbury EMS and police arrived on scene quickly. The bicyclist was evaluated in an ambulance. One of his friends said he appears to be okay. A Massachusetts State Trooper also responded to the scene from a nearby work detail.

Cape Cod Fishing Report – April 22, 2021
Fresh migratory schoolies and tautog will arrive at Buzzards Bay and the south Cape any day now.
Cape Cod Fishing Report
My coworkers are still putting in time on the upper Cape freshwater ponds for the time being. Anthony DeiCicchi continues to pick off largemouth on wakebaits and swimbaits. Tuesday night he went fishing with a friend, George Costa, who caught a 13-inch, 3 pound, personal best bass on a 3-piece rat wakebait.
Jeff, at
Canal Bait and Tackle, says everything is in place for the run of spring stripers at Buzzards Bay and the Canal. Schoolie bass could show up on any tide in the next week. For the Canal, Jeff recommends Savage Sand Eels weighing 3 to 5 oz. in herring color. If you plan on fishing the Cape estuaries, small paddle tails are a wise choice. He says it’s a good idea to stock up on tackle now because it’s going to be difficult to find gear come May. There were reports of tautog in the west end of the Canal.

The Tisbury select board approved a reduction in scope Tuesday night for the Beach Road project. -Rich Saltzberg
Over the course of a marathon four-hour meeting Tuesday night, the Tisbury select board made a number of major decisions, led by a unanimous vote to narrow the scope of the Beach Road shared-use path (SUP) project. The vote, which took place at around 9 pm Tuesday night at a meeting that started at 5, essentially eliminated dedicated off-the-roadway paths for bicycles.
The vote followed a report from town administrator Jay Grande that indicated the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) informed the town Friday that it was willing to pare down aspects of the project that impacted local infrastructure, such as sewer lines. Grande reminded the board Tisbury town counsel David Doneski sent a letter to MassDOT on March 5 to expre
