It was the second blaze that firefighters in the county had to deal with on Thursday. Fire also damaged a house in Gnadenhutten.
John Bourne, chief of the Delaware Valley Joint Fire District in Port Washington, said his department was dispatched at 9:39 p.m. Thursday to the explosion on Fillman Bottom Road.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the house on fire. There was debris from the explosion up to 300 feet away.
The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time, Bourne said.
According to the Trempealeau County Sheriffâs Office, a westbound Dodge truck driven by Brett M. Hays, 32, Whitehall, was stopped in traffic shortly after 8 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 121 while waiting to turn left into a driveway. Haysâ vehicle was then struck from behind by Chevrolet sedan driven by Preston T. Martin, 19, Whitehall.
Hays suffered undisclosed injuries and was transported via ambulance to an area hospital. The driver of the Chevrolet sedan said he was not injured. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.
The sheriffâs office says Hays looked away from the road for a moment and that inattentive driving is believed to be a factor in this crash.
