Western Mass providers prepare to vaccinate younger teens

Baystate Health is preparing to vaccinate those 12 to 15 against coronavirus disease 2019 at locations that include its High Street Health Center. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention meets Wednesday to review data the Food and Drug Administration used in its emergency use authorization Monday of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for younger adolescents. Cardiovascular surgeons at Saint Francis Hospital, a member of Trinity Health Of New England, performed the greater Hartford region s first Convergent Procedure at the Hoffman Heart and Vascular Institute at Saint Francis. The Convergent Procedure is a collaborative effort between a cardiac surgeon and an electrophysiologist to effectively treat patients with persistent atrial fibrillation (AFib).

Our region is slowly but surely building up resources to make behavioral health treatment more accessible to residents.
After Providence Behavioral Health Hospital, part of Trinity Health of New England, ended inpatient psychiatric services at its 74-bed facility in June, the situation for Western Massachusetts residents seeking care looked dire. The closing worsened an already chronic shortage of beds in the region. In February, Health Partners of New England announced it had purchased Providence and would rename the facility MiraVis

SPRINGFIELD Baystate Health has launched its partnership with for-profit Kindred Health Services with the opening of a temporary 12-bed child-and-adolescent behavioral health unit as the two continue plans for their $55 million, 150-bed psychiatric hospital,
The temporary unit restores inpatient pediatric psychiatric services to Western Massachusetts. Mercy Medical Center, part of Trinity Health Of New England, closed Providence Behavioral Hospital in June. The hospital had a 24-bed pediatric psychiatric unit that was the only one in the region.
