Church to host drive-thru dinner, living nativity Deanna Bonn Trinity United Methodist Church (UMC) wil host a “Community-wide Christmas Drive thru Pickup Dinner” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the church, 430 Eunice Street in El Dorado. “It s a lot of work but the nicest part of the drive thru is that the older people who can t get out much right now can do this,” said Church Secretary Susan Sherwood. “Our whole goal is to bring the community together.” Santa will also be on hand to give everyone treats. The dinner menu includes turkey and gravy, cheesy potato casserole, seasoned green beans, a hot roll and christmas jello surprise cake. A sugar free dessert is available, upon request. Pre-orders are appreciated, but not required and can be made by calling the church at 316-321-4235. Payment is due at pickup. Meals cost $7.00 each or to serve a family of 5-6 people, costs $30.00. Hutch police receive gift bags from Trinity United Methodist class

During this season that includes a pandemic, the Serendipity Sunday school class at Trinity United Methodist Church wanted to make local law enforcement personnel feel appreciated with gift bags including handwritten notes in Christmas cards.  The class put together gift bags for Reno County Sheriff s Department and the Hutchinson Police Department that include cards, blue-lined stress balls, and sweet and savory pre-packaged treats.  The members of the Serendipity Class decided they wanted to send gifts this year and encourage other members of the community to express their appreciation too. We felt it was important to show support for them. With the pandemic, it s even harder for them to stay safe, said Debra Esau, a member of the class.

mmcilwain@sungazette.com JERSEY SHORE The Jersey Shore Borough Council unanimously approved the 2021 budget, which includes no tax increase and is balanced in expenditures and revenue at $1,836,380.58, and authorized the police commission to continue investigating regionalization via Zoom earlier this week. Cody Hoover, borough manager, said that the general purpose tax rate has not changed from 8.966 mills, noting that if a borough resident has a property assessed at $100,000 they would pay $896.60 in property taxes. In this budget, the borough increased the amount they give to the public library from $7,000 to $7,500 and increased the borough manager salary from $55,000 to $60,000. Hoover also said that there are no plans for large projects in 2021.

UA Little Rock grad Jason Littleton details heroic life of missionary Pearle McCain

News No Comments A University of Arkansas at Little Rock student has detailed the life of Pearle McCain, a missionary from Arkansas who spent 40 years serving in Japan and China, in his graduate research. Jason Littleton of Little Rock will graduate this December with a master’s degree in public history. He discovered McCain’s personal journal and photographs while interning with the United Methodist Museum of the Arkansas Conference, located at First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, during the fall 2015 semester. He was fascinated with her story and detailed it in his thesis, “The Light We Cast: The Life of Pearle McCain.”
