Lake to open cold weather shelters through Saturday

TAVARES With temperatures expected to drop Thursday night, Lake County will activate its cold weather shelters through Saturday night.
The shelters will be available for anyone who would otherwise be vulnerable to the incoming cold weather, which is expected to reach the low 30s on Friday and Saturday nights.
Lifepointe Church, located at 3551 E. Orange Ave. in Eustis, and Trinity Assembly of God located at 200 Urick St. in Fruitland Park, will open all three nights from 5 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.
Masks are required, and the Florida Department of Health will be conducting COVID-19 screenings at each shelter, as well as offering hepatitis A and flu vaccinations.

Cold shelters are opening across Central Florida as temperatures may dip below freezing Thursday night into Friday morning.
Most of Central Florida will wake up on Friday to temperatures in the 30s and 40s with highs in the mid-50s. Wind strength will also increase, making it feel even colder Christmas morning.
