Image Source: IANS News Agartala, Jan 13 : The Tripura High Court has asked the BJP-led state government and the election authority to hold the election to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) at the earliest, a court official said on Wednesday. Hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), a division bench of Chief Justice Akil Kureshi and Justice Satya Gopal Chattopadhyay said: We would expect the respondents (state government and State Election Commission) to complete the election process without any further waste of time, of course, subject to completion of statutory formalities and the mandatory period required to be granted for completing particular stages.

Strike call by Tripura party receives thin response Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA A 24-hour strike called by the Tripura People’s Front (TPF), a tribal based party, on Wednesday received thin response. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the State, police said. This has been the TPF’s second strike in the past one month to press its demand for the arrest of perpetrators responsible for lynching of fireman Biswajit Debbarma during an anti-Bru settlement protest in Panisagar of north Tripura on November 21. A non-tribal youth was also killed in police firing on the protesters, while at least 23 people, including 15 policemen, were injured.

The same was informed by a notification issued by the secretary of the state urban development department, Kiren Gitte. Gitte has also ordered the appointment of administrators to the urban local bodies, from the date of dissolution of these bodies. Most of the civic bodies in Tripura will end their tenure in December. The 20 urban local bodies consist of one Agartala Municipal Corporation, six Nagar panchayats and 13 Municipal Councils. The charge of the administrator of Agartala Municipal Corporation will be taken by the West District Magistrate. On the other hand, the sub-divisional magistrates will look after their respective local bodies in the State.
