Fishermen detained in eastern Libya have been freed - Italy Reuters 17/12/2020 © Reuters/YARA NARDI FILE PHOTO: Families ask for the release of Italian fishermen arrested in Libya ROME (Reuters) - A group of 18 sailors who were seized by Libyan patrol boats in September while fishing in the Mediterranean have been freed by authorities in eastern Libya, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Thursday. The sailors, who include Italian and Tunisian nationals, were accused by local authorities of operating in Libya s territorial waters. Italy disputed this. Our sailors are free, Di Maio said in a post on Facebook shortly after he and Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte flew to Benghazi for talks with military commander Khalifa Haftar, who holds sway in eastern Libya.

(Shutterstock) Facebook announced on Tuesday it has removed hundreds of accounts linked to rival French and Russian networks that sought to sway public opinion in Africa. The social media company said the actions mark the first time it has detected networks at odds with one another directly interacting and criticizing the other as being fake. In all, Facebook said in a statement it suspended three networks, including hundreds of Facebook and Instagram accounts, as well as hundreds of pages and groups, for carrying out what it called coordinated inauthentic behavior.
