His name was Alireza Fazeli Monfared and he was only 20 years old.
Fazeli Monfared was homosexual and due to the difficulties he faced because of his sexual orientation, was about to flee his native Iran for Turkey.
But he was reportedly killed by his family members before he could leave the southwestern province of Khuzestan after they accused him of dishonoring the family.
Fazeli Monfared s killing has put the plight of Iran s LGBT community in the spotlight amid concerns that this will not be the last suspected case of so-called honor killings of homosexuals in the Islamic republic.

The province of P.E.I. says systems are now in place to have Islanders update their birth certificates with more gender inclusive options like an X or leaving the field blank.
A
series of amendments to the Vital Statistics Act came into effect in March 2020, but the province says there was a delay in updating the gender fields on birth certificates that came down to needing a more modern software program.

The Maine Public Health Association and the Social Sciences Program at the University of Maine at Augusta have been addressing barriers to health care that people experience through the monthly Zoom panels, Health Equity Dialogues. February focused on challenges that transgender patients face when accessing health care, often more apparent in rural Maine such as Franklin County.
Primary concerns expressed by the Feb. 10 panelists included data collection, transphobic attitudes and the lack of trans-competent providers, doctors and medical professionals who have had training and experience working with people who identify as transgender.
