Tiruppur MP K. Subbarayan, who inspected the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital regarding the COVID-19 situation on Friday, flagged various issues such as vaccine shortage and disposal of waste at the hospital.
He told mediapersons he was shocked to see garbage including discarded personal protective equipment (PPE) kits accumulating “about 20 feet away” from the hospital’s kitchen. He immediately instructed Tiruppur Corporation Commissioner to dispose the waste, he said.

A woman allegedly poisoned her two daughters and attempted suicide at Palladam in Tiruppur district on Wednesday. The two girls died on Thursday.
According to the police, Tamilselvi (28) and her two daughters were admitted at the Palladam Government Hospital by family members on Wednesday evening. They were subsequently referred to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital, where she allegedly told the doctors that she consumed rat poison and also made her two daughters to consume the poison, the police said.
The mother and the younger daughter were then referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). On Thursday morning, the seven-year-old daughter died at the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital, while the five-year-old girl died at CMCH, the police said. AAA A man, who allegedly stole the car of a traffic police, suffered injuries as the vehicle met with an accident near Uthukuli on Tuesday.
Police sources said that S. Vijay (23) from Tiruvannamalai, who was working as a private car driver here, allegedly entered the sport utility vehicle (SUV) parked near the Tiruppur Corporation headquarters on Mangalam Road at around 1.45 p.m. With the vehicle key still inside the car, he drove off from the spot and headed towards Uthukuli. He was allegedly in an inebriated state, police sources claimed.
Migrant workers leave before completing quarantine period

A group of 16 migrant workers from Jharkhand, who were employed in a private spinning mill in Vellakoil and tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in April, have allegedly left for their hometowns a day before their 14-day quarantine period ended.
According to sources in the Health Department, the 16 men aged between 19 and 27 tested positive on April 6 and were admitted to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.
Upon their discharge after a week, the workers were asked to quarantine themselves for one more week till Tuesday.
However, the mill authorities allegedly allowed the 16 migrant workers to be a part of a batch of 40 workers who left for Jharkhand in a bus on Monday, the sources said.
