Migrant workers leave before completing quarantine period

A group of 16 migrant workers from Jharkhand, who were employed in a private spinning mill in Vellakoil and tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in April, have allegedly left for their hometowns a day before their 14-day quarantine period ended.
According to sources in the Health Department, the 16 men aged between 19 and 27 tested positive on April 6 and were admitted to the Tiruppur Government Medical College Hospital.
Upon their discharge after a week, the workers were asked to quarantine themselves for one more week till Tuesday.
However, the mill authorities allegedly allowed the 16 migrant workers to be a part of a batch of 40 workers who left for Jharkhand in a bus on Monday, the sources said.

AAA With the recent reporting of 30 COVID-19 cases from a garment company in Perumanallur, the Tiruppur district administration has ramped up preventive measures such as increased testing and vaccination.
According to the Health Department officials, the swab samples of the employees were lifted earlier in the week after an employee experienced COVID-19 symptoms. The test results that returned on Thursday showed that 30 employees in total have contracted the virus, following which the garment company was ordered to be closed for disinfection. While over 500 swab samples were lifted, no more new cases were reported from the company in Perumanallur, the officials claimed. The employees, who tested positive, were hospitalised and their condition was stable as of Saturday, the health officials said.
Coimbatore: As many as 64 people, including bull tamers, bull owners and spectators, suffered injuries during the jallikattu event held at Alagumalai in Tirupur on Sunday.
More than 555 bull tamers and 749 bulls from across the state attended the fourth jallikattu event, organised by the Tirupur district administration in association with Alagumalai Jallikattu Bulls Welfare Association.
Animal husbandry minister Udumalai K Radhakrishnan flagged off the event at 8am. Tirupur collector K Vijayakarthikeyan, MLAs Karaipudur A Natarajan of Palladam constituency and U Thaniyarasu of Kangeyam constituency were present.
Only those bull tamers, who had Covid-19 negative certificates, were allowed to participate in the event.

COIMBATORE: A 29-year-old man, who lost more than Rs 7 lakh in online gambling, ended his life by jumping in front of a speeding train near Kongu Main Road in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu on January 5, police said.
The deceased has been identified as S Elvin Fredric, 29, of Ilango Nagar at Avarampalayam in Coimbatore city.
On January 5, an unidentified man’s body was found on the railway track in Tirupur. The Government Railway Police (GRP) sent the body to the mortuary of Tirupur Government Medical College and Hospital. The police tried to trace the identity of the deceased.
