Nostalgia: Cubs, Scouts and Guides have seized their opportunities down the years

Being a Cub, Scout, or Guide opens up a world of opportunity – and local young people have seized that chance to enjoy success and develop as people down the years. One example was when canoeists from 1st Kendal Scouts and Guides were national champions in 1989 after success in the National Scout Canoe Championships on Windermere. The event was part of the National Scout Marathon. PARADING: Kentdale Scouts taking part in the St George’s Day Parade in Kendal in 1993 Five competitors from Kendal became champions out of 130 entries from all over the country. A stiff breeze down the lake was in the competitors’ favour. LETTER TO THE MARBLEHEAD EDITOR: Vote Yes on Article 42

LETTER TO THE MARBLEHEAD EDITOR: Vote Yes on Article 42 Wicked Local The Marblehead Board of Selectman has a very unique service format – a one-year term.  No other Select Board or School Committee we know of has a 1-year term.  In fact, even multi-generation Marbleheaders often seem surprised by this fact.  The inevitable question is, “Why, that sounds crazy?  Why not the usual 3-year staggered term?” No one really knows why, but the reasons generally given are tradition and the ability for the voters to “Throw the bums out.” Or maybe in 1649, when the Selectman first met, a one-year commitment was plenty given a 38-year average life span.

With five seats up for grab, two left wide open by the departure of David Depew and the death of Judy Jacobi, 2021 could produce a strong race for a seat at the selectmen’s table.

What does future hold for South Lakeland s economy?

Looking ahead to 2021, what is your vision for supporting the South Lakeland economy? Coronavirus undoubtedly presents one of the biggest challenges to our district. SLDC is working with multiple agencies as part of the immediate response to the pandemic but is also focussed on doing everything in our power to create the conditions necessary for our businesses and communities to recover. SLDC has a clear plan of activity for the district which will help with recovery, build confidence, attract investment and ultimately make South Lakeland a better place to live, work and explore. We were pursuing many of these projects anyway, but it is all the more vital that we deliver on them now.
