One Little Favor Before Their First Date
When Erik Leibovitz and Dara Silverman initially met online, he asked her to not go out with anyone else before they had the chance to meet in person.

Dara Silverman knew Erik Leibovitz for all of 15 minutes after connecting on J-Swipe in July 2015, when he asked a question that caught her off guard.
“Can you do me a favor?” said Mr. Leibovitz, 30, the vice president for global partnerships and business development at Monumental Sports & Entertainment in Washington.
Ms. Silverman, also 30 and a vice president for cybersecurity operations at J.P. Morgan Chase in Washington, braced herself.

When Christopher Jones met Marissa Follo Perry at a bus stop, his infatuation with her was immediate. It was a big day for them both: the first day of kindergarten.
Mr. Jones and Ms. Follo Perry, both now 35, were each raised in Italian-American families in Wolcott, Conn. From that first meeting in 1990, when they were just 5, Mr. Jones says the embers of his ardor remained aflame, in elementary school through high school and beyond, despite a clear lack of fanning by Ms. Follo Perry.

Hours after Ms. Brinkerhoff and Mr. McCann met on Wire Mesa, they followed each other on Instagram. A day later, he asked her to meet him for a ride through Zen, another nearby trail near her home. That first date, which ended with a Chick-fil-A dinner at a scenic trail stop, was not all picnic blankets and golden sunsets.
“There were a few times you could tell there was nervousness,” Mr. McCann said. That was in part because they rooted out their differences early. “Our backgrounds are not even a little alike,” Ms. Brinkerhoff said.
