Misadventure verdict on death of Downham Market woman

A conclusion of misadventure was found in an inquest held today into the death of Samantha Ford at her home in Downham last summer.
The online hearing, before area coroner Yvonne Blake, heard that Mrs Ford,aged 53, died following a house fire at her home on the Retreat Estate on July 29. She had died from inhalation of fire fumes.
Evidence read to the inquest said that the alarm had been raised after a neighbour saw smoke pouring out of a ground-floor window of the property.

A fire at a house in which a 53-year-old woman died was probably caused by a lit cigarette being dropped onto a chair, an inquest heard.
Samantha Ford died after a blaze broke out inside her semi-detached house at Retreat Estate in Downham Market on July 29 last year.

An inquest at Norfolk Coroner s Court in Norwich on Friday heard that Mrs Ford was a smoker and that at the time of her death had a high level of alcohol in her system which may have caused her to be confused in the fire.
