‘Key role for hospital managements in deceased donor organ donation’
Many young health-care professionals in Kerala are very keen and motivated to take the deceased organ donation programme forward, but they need to raise their level of confidence and knowledge of all aspects of organ transplant, Maria Paula Gomez, Executive Director, Donation and Transplantation Institute (DTI ), Spain, said.
She was interacting with the media at the end of a three-day training workshop for Transplant Procurement Managers, organised by Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) and DTI Foundation here on Wednesday.
Dr. Gomez, who has been working closely with the KNOS, the nodal agency manning the State’s deceased donor organ donation programme, Mrithasanjeevani, for the past three years, pointed out that it is the lack of commitment on the part of various heads of departments and individual hospital administrations that is preventing deceased donation from taking off in Kerala. In all, 527 persons received the COVID-19 vaccination in the district on Monday. The vaccination drive was carried out in nine centres, the district administration said.
Forty-eight persons were vaccinated at the District Hospital, Nedumangad; 66 at the Taluk Hospital, Vithura; and 57 persons at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
The vaccination were also carried out at the NIMS Medicity (62), Taluk Hospital, Parassala (60), Women and Children Hospital, Thycaud (53), Family Health Centre, Pangappara (77), KIMS Hospital (54), and Sree Gokulam Medical College (50).
The exercise will continue on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Healthcare workers care being innoculated in the first phase.
