With Christmas and New Year around the corner, the Health Department in Kerala has asked the people to stick to guidelines issued by the government to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as the state is witnessing a spike in cases since the recently held civic polls. The caseload has witnessed an increase in the state since December 12. The Health Minister has already cautioned the cases are likely to spike in the next few weeks.

COVID-19 Negative Report Mandatory For Entry At Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple Dec 21, 2020, 11:16 IST THIRUVANATHAPURAM:  The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), which manages the Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala, has effected a decision that devotees visiting the shrine must carry a COVID- 19 negative report from December 26. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, TDB President N Vasu said the RT-PCR test certificate must be taken not more than 48 hours prior to their visit to the temple,    else they will not be permitted to undertake the pilgrimage. The Board also revealed that the Kerala government has provided Rs 50 Crore for the Sabarimala temple. So far, 2,000 devotees are allowed daily from Monday to Friday. Only 3,000 devotees are allowed to visit the temple on Saturdays and Sundays. The Kerala High Court has allowed permission for 5,000 devotees to visit the Sabarimala shrine daily from next week with season starting.

Post December 26, devotees will be allowed to visit Sabarimala hill shrine only after producing a COVID-negative certificate following an RT-PCR test, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) said, even as the Kerala High Court granted permission to allow 5,000 pilgrims to visit the temple from Sunday. TDB president N Vasu said devotees must carry a COVID-19-negative certificate after conducting an RT-PCR test not more than 48 hours prior to their visit to the temple. In view of the Makaravilakku festival season from December 31 to January 19, 2021, devotees who do not have an RT-PCR-negative certificate will not be allowed to climb the hill, the board president said.
