What Is the Purpose of the Bible?

26 May When you attempt to answer a question like what is the purpose of the Bible, there are many different directions you can go in. The Bible can be seen as an historical book because it is filled with history. It can also be seen as an instructional book. Some have even coined an acronym about the Bible, Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. I think the best way to sum up the purpose of the Bible is to recognize that it is a book of revelation or a book that reveals. When you understand what the Bible reveals, you will understand what the purpose of the Bible is.

Is the Gospel Offensive, or Are You?

- There is no other name in heaven or earth by which you can be saved. - If you’re not born again you can’t go to heaven. I don’t know if you ever thought of it like this, but in order to come to Christ the first thing you must do is admit that you are wrong. You have to admit you are wrong about the way you are living and what you believe. That’s why for many, when they hear this their response is to push back and even get a little defensive. How in the Beginning Was the Word Explains the True Nature of God

When you understand what John 1:1 means you will see that it shapes the lens by which you must look at Jesus throughout the rest of the book. One of the most important truths about who Jesus is and the character and nature of God appear in these few words. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). This one verse establishes the Word as being both divine and eternal in nature. Everything you read after this must be filtered through this reality that the Word was God. Take every action, every miracle, every teaching, and everything Jesus does and view it with this truth and you will understand why John 1:1 means so much.

Photo credit: ©Getty Images/shironosov “They are new every morning” His mercies are new every morning. If there is a question to be asked, it is how are God s mercies new every morning? We already know his mercy flows out of his love. Since he has eternal love then his mercy will be as well because they are connected. The statement that God’s mercies are new every morning is really a reminder to us. God gives mercy for each day and it is refilled and refreshed each morning. This is not just a statement about availability, it is also about access. Regardless of how often you have to rely on God’s mercy, which is everyday for me, you can always come back for more. This is not a license to tempt God, live in sin, and then call on his mercy. If that is your mindset, the promise of this verse does not apply to you. If your hea
