TV, movies & more: Acting bug sticks with Orrville native Jordan Kamp

Jordan Kenneth Kamp was born an artist. “He was such a good artist at preschool that the teacher would say we never had anybody draw with the detail this 3-year-old draws with,” said his mother, Sheryl Kamp. Drawing was one way for Jordan Kamp to express himself. As he grew older, he got immersed in a different type of storytelling, acting. With his light heart and unique sense of humor, he became a familiar face on TV commercials, theater and cinema. “I found an identity with being artistic, so I guess that’s where it started,” Kamp said. His first performance was a one-act play, Hello, Dolly, at Orrville High School where he played Horace Vandergelder.

CNN public editor: Should CNN journalists unionize?

CNN public editor: Should CNN journalists unionize? Newsrooms are unionizing faster than ever, driven by economic uncertainty and their need for more influence over diversity––of content and staffing. Axios reports that in 2020, “More than 1,800 journalists across unions from the NewsGuild and the Writers Guild (of America) unionized… That’s up from roughly 1,500 the year prior.” Conspicuously missing from that trend: cable news. As a result, Anderson Cooper is covered by union protection when he goes to work at CBS, but not when he returns to CNN. As a former producer who has worked in both union and non-union newsrooms, I can attest to the value collective negotiation provides individual workers as well as the editorial process.  (Unfortunately, the advantages weren’t clear until I was hired at MSNBC, which is not organized.)

What s the difference between the Globes, the Oscars and the SAGs?

What s the difference between the Globes, the Oscars and the SAGs? From CNN s Lisa Respers France Awards season is super busy for us entertainment journalists (think multiple Super Bowls without the snacks that come along with that big game) and while there are plenty, the big three when it comes to acting are the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the granddaddy if them all, the Academy Awards a.k.a. the Oscars. But how are they different? Glad you asked. Regina King speaks onstage during the 93rd Annual Academy Awards at Union Station on April 25 in Los Angeles.  Todd Wawrychuk/A.M.P.A.S. via Getty Images

Health Plan Tries To Sink Ed Asner-Led Age Bias ERISA Suit

ADVERTISEMENT Health Plan Tries To Sink Ed Asner-Led Age Bias ERISA Suit Law360 (May 3, 2021, 7:27 PM EDT) The SAG-AFTRA health plan is looking to beat back the latest version of a suit claiming the pandemic-related changes it made to its eligibility requirements violate ERISA and discriminate against older participants like 91-year-old actor Ed Asner, asking a California federal judge to toss the proposed class action. The plan, which provides health care to members of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union and their families, argued in its motion to dismiss Friday that the eligibility changes can t be challenged under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.
