Hanover Township plans $800,000 upgrade to Izaak Walton site

Hanover Township met Friday to discuss plans for the Izaak Walton Center & Reserve in Elgin. The $800,000 project is funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Of nine bids, the construction contract was awarded to E.P. Doyle & Son, LLC. in April.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony and then explore the park s many features, including the new splash pad, which will be open, weather permitting.   As the park district s newest park, 33-acre Wolf s Crossing Community Park offers several new amenities, including the district s first challenge course, a multipurpose hill for sledding, running, climbing and other activities, a set of 4 pickleball courts, a nature play area and a splash pad, which opens for the first time this spring.

Before discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Mike McCormick expressed concern board members were “a little rough” at the last meeting with Village Parks and Recreation Director Todd Strubhart and Village Engineer Richard Beran. “All that they have done is what this board has directed them to do,” McCormick said. “They were just doing their jobs.” In 2019, Godfrey applied for a grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the first phase of the Glazebrook Park expansion. The application was successful and Godfrey will be awarded $400,000 for the project. Half of the money has been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimburse
