New Scottish Government scheme set to speed up country s 5G rollout

A total of 124 masts are to be installed to improve reception in rural parts of Scotland. The new scheme will be funded by the Scotland 5G Centre, a Scottish Government-funded national centre set up to promote the rollout and adoption of 5G. It is part of the Infralink programme led by the Scottish Futures Trust. Scottish Government Connectivity Minister Paul Wheelhouse said the scheme was “game-changing”. “The changes in the way we use digital technology to stay connected over the past 12 months have shown how vital reliable digital connectivity is in all of our lives,” he said. “Continued investment in mobile infrastructure, and the tools to remove barriers and make collaboration straightforward for all parties involved, is essential to Scotland’s social and economic recovery from the pandemic.”

It’s a dynamic industry, too, with a £15 billion turnover and more than 119,000 employees. Despite the challenges of the global pandemic, the industry refuses to shy away from its vision for future growth, and industry leadership organisation Scotland Food & Drink is continuing efforts to work towards its Ambition 2030 vision, where the target is to double the size of the country s food and drink industry to £30 billion turnover by 2030.

(Credit: BBC World Service via CC) The concept was developed for the Fuel Change Challenge, sponsored by Skills Development Scotland and the Scottish Funding Council, which has invited apprentices across the country to come up with workable business concepts to reduce carbon emissions and increase sustainable business opportunities. The Leonardo grad apprentices discovered that the pandemic has led to an acceleration in the retirement of older aircraft that would otherwise have remained in operation for several more years, offering an area rich for redevelopment into sustainable business opportunities.
