Quebec invited 233 skilled worker candidates in latest Arrima draw

Quebec issued invitations to apply for selection under the Regular Skilled Worker Program to 233 immigration candidates on December 16. Details of the latest draw were released today. Invitations were issued to candidates who had an Expression of Interest (EOI) in Quebec’s online registration portal, Arrima. There were two categories of candidates invited in the latest draw. The first group needed to have a validated offer of employment. The second included people who were staying in Quebec as a diplomat, consular officer, a representative for the United Nations or any intergovernmental organization that carries out operations in Quebec. The draw could have also included people who are members of the staff of any such official, as these occupations are also covered under Section 26 of the Quebec Immigration Regulation.

Saskatchewan invites 576 in new PNP draw

Saskatchewan’s held a new draw on December 17, inviting immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) invited candidates from the International Skilled Worker category through two subcategories: Express Entry, and Occupations In-Demand. They sent out a total of 576 invitations to immigration candidates who had work experience in select occupations. A total of 190 were invited through the Express Entry sub-category, and 386 invitations went to Occupations In-Demand candidates. Regardless of the category, invited candidates needed an EOI score of at least 71 in order to be invited. This is the provincial requirement, not the Comprehensive Ranking System cutoff. Invited candidates all had Educational Credential Assessments.

PEI PNP invites 195 in new immigration draw

Eligible candidates are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for their age, work experience, education, and language proficiency in English and French. Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination are given an additional 600 points toward their CRS score, and are effectively guaranteed an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw. In order to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI, Express Entry candidates need to create an EOI profile with the PEI PNP. EOI profiles are given points based on the province’s unique points grid. The highest-scoring candidates are then invited to apply through monthly draws.

Numerous coronavirus vaccines have been developed and vaccination campaigns are underway around the world including here in Canada. The start of the year was largely uneventful for Canada’s immigration system. The Canadian government had a new mandate and new immigration minister following a federal election in late-2019. The government’s immigration mandate letter and official policy statements suggested no major changes. Canada would continue to welcome high levels of immigrants, international students, and foreign workers to support a strong economy and society.
