NEW BEDFORD Police officers, firefighters and EMTs have interacted with the public on a regular basis throughout the pandemic. Though the state has a mask mandate and agencies have protocol for personal protective equipment, people are not always compliant on or off the job, a reality that makes the vaccine an important tool in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
As of mid-March, nearly 850 Massachusetts State Police members (about 30%) did not get the COVID-19 vaccine at department-run clinics despite being eligible for about two months, according to a report from The Boston Globe.
New Bedford s clinics to vaccinate first responders started on Jan. 11 with the Moderna vaccine, which requires a second dose at least 28 days after the first. At that time, at least 200 of the city s nearly 490 first responders in fire, police and EMS did not sign up for an appointment.
NEW BEDFORD After a three-alarm fire crippled a building in the northern part of the South End early into the night on Sunday, local residents and businesses are now facing the aftermath of the damage. My life is there, said restaurant owner Javier Rojas, reflecting on his 22-year-old business. The most I lost there were the memories.
According to the New Bedford Fire Department, several calls reported a structure fire at 1:57 a.m. at 95 Rivet St. The building is a three-story mixed occupancy with the former Mi Antojo Mexican Restaurant on the ground level and apartments on the second and third floors.
