After storm knocks out power, Peninsula Community Health raced to give out COVID-19 vaccines Austen Macalus, Kitsap Sun BREMERTON  A hundred people who received the coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday have Mother Nature to thank.  Staff at Peninsula Community Health Services had to rush Wednesday to administer 110 doses of the Moderna vaccine after bad weather Tuesday night knocked out power at its health clinic in Belfair.  The clinic s backup generator failed to kick in after power went out around midnight, said PCHS Executive Director Jennifer Kreidler-Moss, causing vaccine doses held in the freezer to start to thaw.  Staff were alerted in the middle of the night but couldn’t make the drive from Bremerton to Belfair in time to prevent them from defrosting, “That started the clock ticking,” Kreidler-Moss said. “It was definitely a scramble to make sure we didn’t waste any doses.”

BREMERTON   Paramedics, firefighters and other frontline responders started to receive the coronavirus vaccine this week as Kitsap County medical providers continue to administer the initial phase of doses. Peninsula Community Health Services, which received 975 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine last Thursday, is inoculating fire departments across Kitsap, Shelton and North Mason counties throughout the week, along with Kitsap Mental Health crisis responders and staff at the county s quarantine and isolation facility.
