With an aim to hit back at the increasingly vicious campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election 2021, state chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday held a roadshow at Bolpur in the Birbhum district.
Notably, this is the very place where Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah had conducted his own roadshow earlier this month on December 20.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today that the Public Works Department (PWD) will take back control of a road near the Visva Bharati University s campus. The 2.9 km long road connects two campuses of the university Santiniketan and Sriniketan and the university authorities were given possession of it in 2017. There are many complaints from local people that they are not being allowed to use the road and it was causing inconvenience. So, the PWD will now take control of it, Ms Banerjee said at an administrative meeting at Bolpur in Birbhum district.

Visva-Bharati University in West Bengal has written to its state government alleging that dozens of university s plots have been wrongly allocated to private entities. The university situated at Shantiniketan said in writing that the team preparing the list of unauthorised occupants include Amartya Sen.

Kolkata: The centenary celebration of prestigious Viswa Bharati University is mired in a fresh controversy as Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal Chief Minister, was seen missing from the event on Thursday. The event was, however, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State Governor Jagdeep Dhankar. The Chief Minister said that she was never invited, never received any invitation and also dismissed claims made by BJP that the invite was sent by the University. She regretted the cultural event was made into a BJP event.
