8.61 lakh MT of wheat procured in Punjab s Ludhiana ANI | Updated: May 02, 2021 16:58 IST
Ludhiana (Punjab) [India], May 2 (ANI): During the ongoing Rabi season, the district administration has till today has procured 8,61,081 metric ton of wheat in the various grain markets/ mandis of Ludhiana.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district 8,61,081 metric ton wheat has arrived in the mandis across the district and the entire stock ton has been purchased by the various agencies.
Similarly, Sharma said that in last 72-hours, 8,13,993 metric ton has been lifted so far. He said that so far payment worth Rs 1549.24 crore has been made to the farmers.

Ludhiana (Punjab) [India], May 2 (ANI): Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Sunday directed all private hospitals on board, to immediately increase the bed capacity to at least 25 per cent by today evening to ensure the treatment to all COVID-19 patients.
Presiding over a virtual meeting with hospitals along with ADC (D) Sandeep Kumar, DDLG Amit Bambi and Civil Surgeon Dr Kiran Ahluwalia Gill, Deputy Commissioner said that with the virulent spread of deadliest coronavirus in the district and filling up of almost all level-3 beds, there is an immediate need to scale up the bed capacity and directed health institutions to add at least 25 per cent more beds of their total capacity to cater the increasing number of COVID-19 cases.

Ludhiana: In a bid to ensure the safety and security of the farmers, labourers, commission agents, and other workforce engaged in ongoing procurement operations from the contagion, the Mandi Board has so far distributed 5000 facemasks among them to keep the grain markets free of Covid.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, the Mandi Board along with the Food Supply department has already made elaborate arrangements of decongesting markets besides ensuring social distancing through marking of the patches.

Punjab Food, Civil, Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, accompanied by Industry and Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora, today inspected the site at Baba Mukand Singh Nagar where the roof of a four-storeyed auto-part factory had collapsed on Monday, killing four persons and injuring seven workers. The roof had caved in while the level of lintel was being illegally raised with the help of jacks (lifting machines).
