Hotels instructed not to rent out space to suspected persons
The Customs (Preventive) and State Excise Department are all set to turn on the heat on rave parties while warning hotels hosting such events to fall in line and cooperate or face the music.
After arresting four persons, including a disc jokey (DJ), following a string of coordinated raids simultaneously conducted on Saturday midnight at five premium hotels in the city and seizing high-end synthetic drugs, the agencies have chalked out a multi-pronged strategy to stem the flow of drugs and check rave parties.

Excise officials on Thursday arrested a migrant worker allegedly with 18g of brown sugar.
The arrested man was identified as Chalam Sheikh, 33, of West Bengal. He was nabbed from Chalakkal at Aluva. Excise sources said that he was selling the stuff in small lots for ₹500 mostly to migrant workers and youngsters. Around 35 such small packs worth lakhs were allegedly seized from him.
Sheikh had several drug peddling cases against him and had even served jail terms. He had been living with his family at a rented house.
A special squad formed by Deputy Excise Commissioner T. A. Ashokkumar to rein in drug movement during the election season made the arrest. He was produced in court and remanded.

JAMMU, Mar 9: In order to generate more revenue for the exchequer and to obviate the possibility of cartelization and monopolistic practices, the Government has proposed to allot retail liquor vends through e-auction to the domiciles of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir only and a draft Excise Policy in this regard has been put in the public domain for inviting suggestions and feedback.
The Excise Policy 2021-22 which will be finalized within next few days is aimed at rationalization of number of taxes/duties and other levies to optimize revenue for the common good, encouraging transition from high to low alcoholic content beverages, bringing about greater social consciousness about the harmful effects of consumption of liquor and alcoholic beverages and to check bootlegging/smuggling of liquor in the UT from neighbouring States/Union

3D theatre and museum combo getting ready in Kochi
Awareness campaigns by the Excise Department in the district against drug and alcohol addiction is set to reach a cutting edge, with a 3D theatre and museum combo at its office complex in Kacheripady here.
The construction of the 60-seater 3D theatre jointly by Keltron and Kerala Artisans Development Corporation at an investment of ₹2 crore is in the final stages. The plan is to commission it within the next 45 days under the State government’s 100-day programme. The project is being executed under Vimukthi, the drug- and addiction-free mission of the department.
