Race to become Speaker of Parliament
As the life of the 7th Parliament expires on January 6, 2021, the race to nominate the Speaker of Parliament for the 8th Parliament has begun.
Per the “Hung Parliament” system of parliamentary practice, it will be incumbent on both parties to reach a compromise in order to have a smooth process in parliament.
For now, after the 2020 elections, the NPP and NDC have 137 seats each with an Independent Candidate who has expressed interest in voting on matters with his mother party, the NPP.
Right now, both parties can equally nominate the Speaker.
Within the NPP, many names are being rumoured as the best for the job. Some of the names are discussed in this article.

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. Vice Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Vahe Enfiajyan received today head of the Delegation of the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) to Armenia Thierry Ribaux, the Parliament reports.
Vahe Enfiajyan congratulated Thierry Ribaux on assuming office in Armenia, wishing success in his responsible mission.
Highlighting the activity of Red Cross in such a difficult situation, the Vice Speaker has expressed his gratitude to the ICRC Delegation for retrieving the bodies of servicemen killed during the recent war in Artsakh unleashed by Azerbaijan, as well as for the search operations for missing in action, finding out the fates of prisoners of war and other detained persons, etc.
The daubings, on the gate of the synagogue, claimed to be the work of “Antifa Bulgaria”.
Shalom said in a statement on December 23 that according to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism, the comparison of modern Israeli policies to those of the Nazis is manifest antisemitism.
Shalom called for the perpetrators of the vandalism to be found and punished appropriately.
An informal movement rather than an organisation, Antifa Bulgaria has in recent years held counter-protests against the Lukov March, an event held annually – with the exception of 2020 – in honour of a pro-Nazi general and which has drawn neo-Nazis to Sofia from various parts of Europe.

On the eve of Uganda’s Independence in 1962, thieves broke into the embassies of the United States of America and several other foreign missions, but this was a strange kind of robbery. The only valuables they made off with were the flags of those nations.
The attacks were coordinated by Ally Muwabe Kirunda Kivejinja, a member of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) youth wing, who at the time was also a secretary at the party’s research bureau.
“After getting the certainty that the Ugandan flag was to be hoisted… Some of our youth clandestinely moved to the American embassy and the embassies of all nations that we considered to be enemies of Uganda and stole their flags,” he said.

On November 24, while campaigning in Amuru District, Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Nobert Mao told supporters that he was neither pledging nor promising anything for Ugandans once elected because the 2021 general election is purely about change.
“The biggest battle we have to achieve is to get rid of President Museveni and his NRM government who have overstayed in power,” he said.
“The problem in the north here and Uganda generally is not the so-called roads and infrastructure, but the bigger problem of a constitutional crisis. Museveni has outlived his usefulness, he has left Ugandans with thorns in their feet but offered them new shoes, which is meaningless,” he noted.
