Joe Biden has made a sober entrance to Washington ahead of his inauguration as he paid tribute to the country’s victims of the pandemic.
The president-elect went directly to an evening memorial ceremony at the Reflecting Pool near the Lincoln Memorial to honour American lives lost to Covid-19.
He was joined at the special ceremony on Tuesday by vice president-elect Kamala Harris, who spoke of the collective anguish of a nation.
“For many months we have grieved by ourselves,” Harris said. “Tonight, we grieve and begin healing together.”
