XE Market Analysis: Europe - Dec 23, 2020
The euro has been heavy, edging out a five-day low against the pound, and a two-day low versus the yen while nearing yesterday s low in the case against the dollar. The common currency has been a popular long against the dollar in recent weeks, and prevailing weakness may be reflecting some late hedging of positions ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Other dollar pairings and cross rates have for the most part remained within their respective Tuesday ranges. Asian stock markets gained, as have U.S. equity index futures. Taking a small step back, global equity markets and commodities are trading off recent trend highs in consolidating patterns, which attests to the reflation trade having come off the boil. Market narratives have been highlighting a delay in the U.S. Covid relief package alongside ballooning positive Covid tests across more northerly countries, ranging from North America to Europe, and to Japan and South Korea

Twitter has confirmed that the official US presidential accounts will be wiped of their millions of followers before being transferred to the Biden administration.
Mr Biden s team fought the plan, but the social media giant said its decision was unequivocal .
The move marks a reversal from the last transition.
Twitter agreed to Donald Trump s request in 2016 to inherit Barack Obama s millions of followers.
“In 2016, the Trump administration absorbed all of President Obama s Twitter followers on @POTUS and @WhiteHouse - at Team 44 s urging,” Rob Flaherty, the president-elect s digital director, tweeted on Monday.

The invitation for the luncheon was sent to all GOP lawmakers in the chamber, said Jennifer Kocher, a spokesperson for the caucus. No agenda was included, she said, and it was not immediately known how many senators were attending. The top Republican in the state Senate, Jake Corman of Centre County, had other commitments, Kocher said, and was not planning to go. Aides to newly elected Majority Leader Kim Ward (R., Westmoreland) did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom named Alex Padilla to fill the senate seat of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
SHOW TRANSCRIPT
History was made in California yesterday during a zoom call when California Gov. Gavin Newsom named Alex Padilla to fill the Senate seat of Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. Can you imagine what your mom would say if Iask you to be the next senator of California?, said Newsom. You serious?, said Alex Padilla. I m honored, man, and I m humbled.
A pretty neat moment. The gravity was not lost on Padilla.
He will be the first Latino to serve as Senator in California. And he will fill the role until Harris term ends in 2022.
