16 electors cement Joe Biden s win in Georgia

Former gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams presided over the meeting of Democratic electors on Monday. With just eight words – “I cast my ballot for President Joe Biden” – a group of 16 electors, including the state’s first openly LGBTQ elected official, formally delivered Georgia’s electoral votes to a Democratic presidential candidate for the first time since 1992. “This is not a moment of partisanship, it is a moment of patriotism,” said Stacey Abrams, one of the electors and the former state lawmaker and gubernatorial candidate who presided over the electoral vote.  The hour-long process on Monday took place in the Georgia Senate chamber, which is controlled by Republicans and is often the starting point for some of the most notoriously anti-LGBTQ legislation proposed by lawmakers. It’s also the chamber that in January welcomes Rev. Kim Jackson, who will become the state’s first – and only – LGBTQ senator.

I did not need a law to tell me I had to do it,” elector Jack Arends, 64, told those assembled Monday at the Olympia Capitol, his voice trembling.

Massachusetts Electors Cast Their Votes For Biden, Harris

14:24 The polling industry and election forecasters suffered another embarrassing election night that will call into question the usefulness of public opinion surveys and horse race political coverage that appeared to once again underestimate President Trump’s support. Votes are still being tallied, meaning the final verdict on polling and forecasting may not be known for several days, but the results so far are much closer than most analysts predicted in the lead-up to Election Day. The polls in Florida, Iowa, Ohio and Texas all states won by President Trump were mostly wrong, though Democratic nominee Joe Biden appears to have the upper hand in the race for 270 electoral votes and is the favorite to be the next president.
