Inauguration Day is coming; should we be concerned about violence?

Trump has finally conceded. Yet, many citizens are still nervous about the insurrection on Jan. 6, caused by IMPOTUS himself and the possibility of another attack on Jan. 20, Inauguration Day for President-elect Joe Biden. Especially in the LGBTQ community here in North Texas, we have uniquely steep concerns about security on this historic day.
I had a chance to speak with one of my lovely, dear friends, Claudia Saucedo, and a couple of her friends who are also LGBTQ. Claudia and her roomate, an adorable young man named Kevin, and her charming friend Angel are all nervous about Inauguration Day. As we discussed the details of their anxiety, Claudia made it clear they are anxious because, she said, “Trump supporters are sore losers. They already created a disaster at the Capitol. I’m scared that they will attempt to assasinate Biden before he even becomes inaugurated.

Advisers say Trump will spend an extended period of time in the Sunshine State, surrounded by a small circle of close aides as he plots his next steps. The president is still expected to issue additional ceremonial honors, as he has done in recent days behind closed doors, and he may still grant pardons to allies on his way out the door.
A White House spokesperson declined to comment on specific plans for the final days of his term.
Past presidents have typically gone on a public messaging tour to shape the discussion about their legacy, policy accomplishments and time in office.

The last times there were strong glimmers of hope of having a woman in the White House were in 1984 (when Geraldine Ferraro ran for vice president), 2008 and, most recently, in 2016 when Hillary Clinton made history as the first woman nominated for president on a major party ticket.
Many people were delighted, especially Italian American women like myself, when Ferraro ran. They held all kinds of parties for her. I had the pleasure of meeting her on more than one occasion. I once asked her, “What do you do with criticism?” As a Democrat and a woman, she was getting more than her share of verbal attacks, and this was before Twitter and other social media platforms.
