Congratulations are in order for President-elect Biden and Vice-President-elect Harris and the Congress that after being interrupted by protests from supporters of President Trump returned to complete the counting of the electoral vote that the Constitution required them to ratify. The Democrats have won a famous victory, having been lofted to their new offices on the largest popular vote ever recorded in this country.
On the political principles at stake in this election, we were and are with President Trump and the Republican Party. We oppose the kind of socialism that infects the Democratic Party today. Yet Mr. Biden tapped into the mood of America on one important head, that there was a yearning for a more normal, less histrionic politics. The point couldnt have been punctuated more dramatically than it was yesterday.

Biden finished with 306 electoral college votes while outgoing President Donald Trump had 232. Our government congratulates President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on the confirmation of the presidential election victory through the U.S. Congress certification of electoral college results, Choi Young-sam, spokesman of the foreign ministry, said in a commentary.

Local residents watched in shock on Wednesday as a mob descended on the U.S. Capitol, first breaching the building and reaching the Senate floor and ultimately forcing lawmakers out of the building for their own safety.
As the event escalated in Washington, D.C., Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo, a Republican, issued a a scathing statement on the actions of the protesters.
“What is transpiring today in our nation’s Capitol is disgraceful and against everything good that this nation has stood for more than 244 years,” Camillo said in a statement released on Town of Greenwich letterhead.
