Promote, preserve Indian languages, Venkaiah writes to RS members

LAC withdrawal plan gives China the edge

India has committed intelligence, operational and, now, negotiating lapses while managing the border standoff with China. After rejecting, it has conceded to a Chinese proposal of September 2020 containing a segregated agreement on phased disengagement, de-escalation and de-induction north and south of the Pangong Tso lake, according to which India will vacate the pivotal commanding heights on the Chushul range on its side of the LAC for a Chinese pullback from Finger 4 to Finger 8, an outright 8-km intrusion into Indian territory. That is not all. Indian troops will move from Finger 4 to west of Finger 3. The space vacated will become a buffer zone in which patrolling will be suspended.

RS panels improve performance, Naidu writes to chiefs to enhance attendance

Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has urged chairpersons and members of eight parliamentary standing committees to work towards ensuring attendance at over 50 per cent as he highlighted that the panels have shown improvement in working hours. The functioning of the eight Department Related Parliamentary Standing Committees of Rajya Sabha has improved substantially with 15 per cent increase in attendance and more than 16 per cent improvement in the average duration of meetings since their reconstitution in September, 2019 over that of the previous two years. Appreciating the improved performance, Chairman Naidu urged the chairmen and members of the panels to work towards ensuring over 50 per cent attendance, besides targeting a minimum duration of two-and-half hours in each meeting given the efforts and costs involved in holding the meetings.
