Turkey has lost its privileged status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) after long-drawn-out processes initiated by Armenia, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said today, highlighting an essentially incompatible conflict of interests.
“The decision was made by the EAEU Committee board back in March and will be effective upon the expiry of six months from that moment. Turkey enjoyed the privilege of a 25% discount for exports to the EAEU states, which will be terminated now. And the customs duties are oftentimes very high. In a sense, there was a certain privilege discount for products from an EAEU country. I think it is very important also for our entrapreneurs to start getting adapted to that situation from now on. The ban we have imposed will, I think, be extended,” he said in a speech at the National Assembly.
