Vietnam offers $200,000 in aid to Cambodia s Covid fight

Vietnam on Thursday gifted Cambodia $200,000 for its fight against Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung ceremonially gave the money to Cambodian ambassador in Vietnam Chay Navuth, saying Vietnam hopes the support would help Cambodia curb the pandemic, stabilize the situation and recover economically.
He said Vietnam highly values the fact that Cambodia has begun its Covid-19 vaccination program for diplomats, including employees of Vietnam s representative entities in Cambodia.

ASEAN member states, including Vietnam, have agreed to set aside US$10.5 million from the COVID-19 ASEAN Response Fund to purchase vaccines for their citizens on the basis of equal distribution to all 10 countries.

The agreement was reached during the sixth meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) Working Group on Public Health Emergencies, held via video conference on February 18.
The fund has to date received commitments of over US$15 million in support from ASEAN members and their partners.
