BENTON, La. Ground water levels in Bossier Parish are fairly high and trending upward, according to a preliminary report following one year of studies conducted by LSUS.
Members of the Bossier Parish Police Jury heard Wednesday that average levels shown from three sample wells located in the northern, southern and central part of the parish range from just over three feet from the surface to roughly seven and a half feet.
Just over a year ago, the Police Jury contracted with LSUS to study ground water levels after a series of water and sewer line failures. During repairs, parish engineers and contractors had to deal with water levels very close to the surface that were a major contributing factor to the line failures.

“Staff reviewed the SOQ’s, shortlisted, and interviewed four respondents who had the highest ranked SOQs,” Barkhimer said.
The four were CEC, Freese and Nichols, Olsson and Poe and Associates, Inc.
“Staff is asking for authorization to begin negotiations with CEC, to develop a scope/fee contract for professional design services that will be brought back before commission for approval,” he said.
In other business, commissioners will decide whether to amend city code establishing a fee-in-lieu of providing detention facilities for water runoff.

The Prowers County Board of Commissioners is accepting applications from persons who are residents of Powers County to fill one (1) position on the five member Prowers County Planning Commission with a term expiring January, 2024.
Commission members are required to meet at 8:00 a.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Additional meetings may be required as needed. Commission members review land use applications and make formal recommendations based on the terms of the Prowers County Zoning Regulations, Subdivision Regulations and related plans. Appointed members serve as volunteers.
