Published January 31, 2021 11:49pm DUBAI, United Arab Emirates Key transport hub Dubai on Sunday announced an initiative to accelerate the delivery of coronavirus vaccines, particularly to developing nations, after the WHO warned against abandoning the world s poor. The Vaccine Logistics Alliance, which includes Dubai-based Emirates airline and global logistics giant DP World, is designed to speed up distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world through the emirate. The alliance will support the World Health Organization s COVAX initiative to distribute two billion vaccine doses, the Dubai Media Office said in a statement, without specifying how many doses it would deliver. The distribution will particularly focus on emerging markets, where populations have been hard-hit by the pandemic, and pharmaceutical transport and logistics are challenging, it said.

SINGAPORE: From generous discounts to flexible schedules, airlines are doing all they can to nudge pandemic-weary travellers towards the skies again.
Last week Dubai-based Emirates launched a global sale on its economy and business class seats for flights booked between Jan 19 and Feb 2 for travel until Jun 15 to destinations such as Los Angeles, Moscow and Istanbul.
Analysis
Airlines have responded differently to the way that the pandemic has affected the demand for goods, to the changing nature of those goods, and the way that they are supplied. Several of them have risen to the challenge to a greater degree than others.
One of them is Qatar Airways, which was already the second largest cargo carrier by FTKs (2019). By being one of the first movers in converting passenger aircraft for full freighter operations and seeking out new markets, Qatar Airways has risen to be the leading airline in the world for cargo payload, with almost 10% of the total volume.

All-inclusive Economy Class fares from Dubai start at Dh1,055 to Karachi; Dh1,605 to Istanbul; Dh1,695 to Cairo; Dh1,995 to Moscow and Dh4,995 to Los Angeles. Business Class fares start at Dh4,495 to Karachi; Dh5,995 to Cairo; Dh8,995 to Istanbul; Dh9,995 to Moscow and Dh23,995 to Los Angeles.
Bookings have to be made between January 19 to February 2 for travel until June 15.
