Dubai Gold Cup winner Subjectivist likely to head straight to Royal Ascot

Dubai Gold Cup winner Subjectivist likely to head straight to Royal Ascot Sat 3 Apr 2021 Subjectivist is likely to head straight for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot. Mark Johnston’s four-year-old backed up his Group One win in France with another profitable overseas success in last weekend’s Dubai Gold Cup – a near all-the-way success under Joe Fanning by almost six lengths. His rivals can count themselves unlucky, however – because his initial target had been Saudi Arabia. “He had a fantastic campaign last year – we always thought of him as a genuine St Leger horse, but that was probably his most disappointing effort through the year,” said Johnston’s son Charlie.

Sheema Classic could be next for Berkshire Rocco

Sheema Classic could be next for Berkshire Rocco Sun 28 Feb 2021 Berkshire Rocco may be bound for the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan following a fine effort on his first start for four months in Qatar. Andrew Balding was delighted with the four-year-old’s run in the H H The Amir Trophy at Doha when beaten two and three-quarter lengths by Noor Al Hawa. The Kingsclere trainer expects an even better performance next time from last year’s St Leger runner-up. “He ran a smashing race. It was his first run for a while, and he’s entitled to come on for that,” said Balding.

Charlie Fellowes primes Prince of Arran for turf glory at Saudi Cup

DUBAI: The esteem in which British trainer Charlie Fellowes holds Prince of Arran is clear in every word he utters about his popular eight-year-old horse. “My fella, he’s old, he’s clever, he looks after himself,” said Fellowes. “The reason he’s probably as good as he has ever been, aged eight, is because he has always looked after himself. And it’s also why he finished second and third so many times, because he only ever does as much as he has to.” The champion racehorse is back in Riyadh for the second running of the Saudi Cup, competing in the $2.5 million Red Sea Turf Handicap over 3000m on Saturday, Feb. 20.

Amr Zedan is revolutionizing the equestrian landscape in Saudi Arabia

DUBAI: Amr Zedan’s love affair with all things equestrian has many, eclectic fathers. “When I was young, I always loved sports in general, and I always loved horses as well,” he said. “I was exposed to various sports, and polo was one of the sports I gravitated toward because it combined the ball and the horse. I watched a few movies that featured polo. ‘Pretty Woman’ was one of those movies, and I was captivated by it when I was a kid. I picked up the sport in the late 90s and early 2000s in Dubai and London, and the rest was history.”
