Detective Senior Sergeant Haley Ryan says it s the first known conviction in Aotearoa for this type of offending.
Victoria University s Dr Samantha Keene says the conviction recognises consent doesn t remain if protection is removed without permission.
Keene says survivors and offenders may not be aware this is considered a sexual violation.
