The Louisville Police Department is moving to fire two officers connected to the killing of Breonna Taylor during a raid at her apartment in March. According to the lawyers for Detective Joshua Jaynes, who wrote the search warrant, and Detective Myles Cosgrove, who fired his weapon at the scene, the two men received pre-termination notices Tuesday (December 29) evening.
This comes after a grand jury indicted former Detective Brett Hankison in September on three counts of wanton endangerment for firing into Taylor’s neighbor’s apartment during the raid. Hankison pleaded not guilty to the charges, and he was fired from the police department in June, which he is currently contesting.

In Kentucky, the Louisville Police Department has terminated two more officers involved in the March 13 police killing of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency room technician who was shot to death in her own home. The officers are Detective Myles Cosgrove, who fired the shot that killed Taylor, and Detective Joshua Jaynes, who prepared the search warrant that led to the fatal raid. Former officer Brett Hankison was indicted by a grand jury in September for wanton endangerment for shooting into the apartment of a neighbor, but no one has been criminally charged over Breonna Taylor’s death.

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department in Kentucky has informed two more officers of its intention to fire them for their “extreme violations” of departmental policies that led to Breonna Taylor’s unnecessary death.
One of the officers, Detective Joshua Jaynes, will be fired for obtaining a search warrant under fraudulent means. The second officer, who the FBI determined fired the fatal shot, Detective Myles Cosgrove, also was informed that he will no longer be employed with the department, NBC News reports.
Both men are entitled to a pre-termination hearing in the very near future, but the attorney for Jaynes does not expect the ruling to be overturned.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. Breonna Taylor s mother has called on President-elect Joe Biden to open large-scale federal investigations into the death of her daughter and other Black Americans killed by police. Actions speak louder than words, Tamika Palmer wrote in a full-page ad in Tuesday s Washington Post. We need your actions to show that you are different than those who pay lip service to our losses while doing nothing to show that our loved ones lives mattered.
